Windows uses 20% of your bandwidth, here’s how to get it back
*Tested on Windows XP & Windows 2000 – My system is too shitty for Vista
*
So I recently found out Microsoft reserves 20% of my available bandwidth for their own purposes (usually for updates or sending queries to your machine)
The key to getting that 20% back is as follows : -
Click on Start—>Run–> then type gpedit.msc and hit enter.
You’ll then see the Group Policy Editor open up and would need to go to : -
(on the Top left of the window) Local Computer Policy—>Computer Configuration—>Administrative Templates—>Network—>QOS Packet Scheduler—> (on the right side of the window) Limit Reservable Bandwidth.
Now Double-click on Limit Reservable bandwidth. You will see its “Not configured” but there are more details in the “Explain” tab which clearly indicates that : “By default, the Packet Scheduler limits the system to 20 percent of the bandwidth of a connection, but you can use this setting to override the default.”
To override the default setting you will have to ENABLE reservable bandwidth and enter a value of ZERO, thus disallowing the system to reserve any bandwidth and freeing up 20%.
Let me know if this works for any of you. You can email me at gorillaking@gorillafart.com
